Point your lead foot towards to base, keeping it a few inches in the air. When you slide into a real base, this will help you avoid jamming your foot into the base and getting hurt. Your slide will happen very quickly, so don’t try and think about everything all at once.

The hook is a spin off of the regular feet first slide. The only difference is that instead of making contact with your foot, you will slide feet first but to one side or the other and grab the base with one of your hands. This is very useful especially on a play at home plate. It gives the defender making the tag less body to touch.

Grip the baseball with your index and middle fingers placed tightly together across an outer seam of the ball located at the horseshoe or U-shape seam. For right-handers, place your middle finger across the right half of the seam. Left-handers should do the opposite: place your middle finger across the left half of the seam.

You can slide in straight in feet first or straight in head first. Slide in feet first by pressing the Right Stick (RS) down. Slide in head first by pressing the Right Stick (RS) up. You can also slide wide right either head first or feet first to avoid a tag.

The arm motion a pitcher will use to throw a slider resembles that of a fastball, but the ball is held off center, usually while applying pressure against the ball with the middle finger.
